Wavy Hair: Neither Here Nor There
Is your hair too textured to be considered straight but not curly enough to be considered, well, curly? Welcome to the in-between world of waves. Luckily enough, there’s recently been an onslaught of new hair products as it seems stylists finally realized that we wavy haired girls need good hair care too! Mousse and gels made our waves crunchy and heavy balms turned our locks into listless strands. We’ve recently gotten some good news as wavy hair became the coveted style of beach-going girls all summer, with talks of “surfer-girl” waves in all of the fashion rags.
But, just like every other hair texture, waves look best with specific types of haircuts too. If you’ve got wavy hair, and like to wear it naturally, think layers, layers, layers! Layers help avoid the “mushroom” shaped blob of hair that happens when waves go wrong. Other than that, short, medium, long – sky’s the limit. Just make sure to remind your stylist to put in those layers!
If you are undecided about what length you would like to try than ask yourself what you would most like to do with your hair. Do you want to have the ability to “wash and go?” In that case, a short hairstyle would work best for you. Are you looking for versatility without sacrificing too much length? Try a medium length shag or bob haircut that you can still pull back into a ponytail for those dreaded bad-hair-days. If you have time to upkeep a longer style and love the soft femininity of longer hair, than choose a long cut with cropped layers throughout to keep your waves in check.
Waves can get just as frizzy as curly hair and a good crème or shine serum will quickly remedy that problem. Because wavy hair doesn’t have the flat surface of straighter styles, it can look dull. Keeping your waves moisturized with regular treatments will keep the hair shiny and bright.

To make naturally straight hair wavy, twist damp hair into small sections, twist the sections around your finger and use a bobby pin to hold each section in place at the scalp. Curl the ends with a curling iron for a more polished look.

Kids are never too young to sport a rockin’ fashion style. Of course, you wouldn’t want little Sam’s friends to laugh at her bowl cut hair, would you?
